The problem with the GTO is that while it might be a perfectly nice car, it's not what people expect a GTO to be. Taken on its merits and disregarding the name, it's pretty nice. But when people hear the GTO name they have certain expectations and this car does not live up to them. So even though it's a good car, the people who would line up to buy a "real" GTO have no interest in this one.
