actually, the R32 uses the Haldex AWD system, which is FWD until sensors detect wheel slip, and then engages the rear wheels to compensate. i don't think that's anything like the STi variable center diff, and i don' think you'll be seeing "mAd FiShTaIL AcTioN" with it.

The R32 is a nice car, i like the way it looks, and it's probably pretty fast considering how heavy it is, but if racing were my only concern, i'd look elsewhere. it is nice that it is a hatchback and more practical than other cars, but it's also a VW, so some things are gonna go wrong with it...silly little things...

newer VW's are not good handling cars. the current MKIV is a fat pig with tons of body roll and weird suspension geometry that limits how much you can lower the car without negatively affecting handling. at 3050 lbs for a 1.8T, they're not light either. New VW's are at home in car shows, not the race track. any stock lude will severely hand a MKIV its ass in any sort of corner.

that being said, the R32 is pretty, and i'd buy one if it was a tad bit cheaper.
