I agree, it's a big money maker for california to hassle us all. I think tree huggers and government do not mix. In oregon, some county's have no smog. i have a friend who works for an Acura dealer up there who sees swaps daily with no carb numbers. He says if you have smog it's like 10 bucks and is just a two speed idle test, no dyno.
He says if you own a 96-up they don't even sniff it, they plug in a scanner to the car and that's it. if there are no codes bye bye.
You think it's bad now, wait a couple years. Our state that is in a big budget crisis is going to spend millions to install air moniters under overpasses to bust ppl at random for being over the limit on emissions as we drive them! They will send us mail telling us to repair the car or they will shut down the computer so it will not start.
