I would put money that the CV joint is gone or real close to going.

Pump it up into the air and take a look at it. Put it in gear and by hand move the tire back and forth, if there is a lot of play or you hear a lighter version of that clack then it is 99% likely your CV is wasted.

Buy a new axle, take the old one out and pop the new one in. With hand tools it shouldn't take much more than an hour depending on how much beer is in your system...usually 20 minutes is all it takes with air tools
