In all honesty, without coming across as proselytizing, I have a suggestion:
Get behind the wheel (of an actual car, not GT3), find a twisty road and flog the living shit out of one. While a stock Miata may not provide the visceral, spleen-squishing, sternum-deflating acceleration of, say a stock Mustang Cobra it remains a fantastically balanced car. It rewards on many more subjective levels, and is infinitely more refined than the geriatric live-axle Mustang.
Ultimately, it comes down to a matter of preference. Given the cars I've experiences over the years, I personally find the NB-chassis MX-5 to be one of the finest stock convertibles ever.
