I don't think it's that simple at all. It depends on what you're using the car for, and what you're expecting out of it. There are some significant downsides to replacing the FD - in addition to the cost - as well as benefits.

Go through those previous threads, and you will see - in between the praise - that the downsides are there, downsides that the proponents grudgingly acknowledge. It's up to you to decide what your own needs and priorities are, and whether the shorter FD fits into those needs.
