There is no such thing as a "JDM" D16A1. It just doesn't exist.
Over in Japan, their version of that engine is the browntop and blacktop DOHC ZC, stamped "ZC" on the block. The US 86-87 D16A1 is similar to the browntop, the US 88-89 D16A1 is somewhat of a half-breed of the browntop and blacktop. Both are detuned for the US market, since the browtop ZC put out 135 flywheel horsepower while it's US counterparts only put out 112 (86-87) and 117 horsepower (88-89.) Swaping in higher compression ZC pistons and the more aggressive ZC cams will give you a decent boost in power.
