Default Help with timing

On my 92 Acura Integra, my distributor broke so I replaced it...The new one on it, i believe, is making my tachometer really jumpy. I would drive and it would jump from 4,000 RPM to 5,400 RPM and then back. And this mostly occurs when the engine is cold, but when the engine is warm, it still jumps but not as much. Is this the problem with the timer & the position of the distributor? Also, I'm not sure if my Integra is a 1.7 or 1.8......if I had a 1.7 and used a 1.8 distributor would that make a big difference?

Please help! Email if possible thanks
