I'm sorry to hear of your plight. IME, Sony products have held up quite nicely.
Aside from one VCR, which was made defunct by a Philips DVD-Recorder, I've had nothing but good results with Sony's products. Both my PSX and PS2 run solidly, as does a truly ancient cassete Walkman, Portable Radio, and a few sets of earphones and headphones over the last 10 years or so.

OTOH, I've had awful woes with RCA and GE Televisions. utter crap IME. :dunno: Go figure.
