The pigs are hung upside down and there throats are slit. If you ever heard a pig sqeal its not something you want to hear, when there throats are slit its worse. If riggle and try to get free, its bad when one fall cus you have to hook it back on and they are very heavy and will kick. The blood is drained into tanks and go somewhere( I think to get processed with feed). But the guys who do it everyday, dont mind. They get paid very well.
I had the same experience working for IBP in Lexington, Nebraska. They take a bolt gun and pop the cattle in the head with it and as the stunned cow drops the hook comes up under theor jaw and grabs them up.
Now remember the cow is very rarely ever dead when the hook comes up so the cow is still moving etc. when the first knife slits them down the belly opening the from tits to clit (pardon the expression) and their insides are exposed.
I worked there for 2 years and never thought twice about it but if you wanna talk humane then start looking at your home turf first...I guess thats kinda my point here. We justify beef and pork as well as chicken slaughter but if 90% of people had to see it from start to finish they would be appalled and probably never touch a hamburger or chicken nugget again.
