Similar to two pieces of metal being rubbed against each other without some lubricate in between to limit friction.
or your cv joints could be bad.
thats partially correct.. it does lubricate moving parts.. but the main purpose of the power steering pump is to push fluid on a piston.. similar to how your brakes' pistons work.. it pushes to help you turn the wheel.... but if you're drunk then I'll give you a break
