Default temp gauge

i put an autometer temp gauge in my car last month and left the stock temp gauge unhooked because i had no place to put the stock sending unit. at this time the temp read about 190 degrees normally on my autometer gauge. yesterday i put a T in the head so i could use both the stock temp gauge and the autometer one, but now the temp reads inaccuratly. it reads about 150 degrees max now. this is because the temp sending unit isnt straight in the head anymore. it is in a brass T instead. does anyone else have this problem? is there another spot i can tap into to have both temp sending units screwed into the head?
