Something else to think about is Thermal is trying to sell a product. They will do what ever they can to keep selling that product and not have you return it (i.e. "It's legal"). I would do what I could to pass inspection. The prevailing organization is always going to be the DMV, they say whether you can or cannot be on the road regardless of what a company trying to make money selling car enhancements says. Good luck to you, but my advice would be to get a stock rear section and just try to pass for now. I hope all goes well.
