89 accord... they had a cable controlled clutch. I dont know about the lack of fuel injection being a cost factor... just more of a headache. You'll need a way to put a high pressure fuel pump in (possibly external from the tank) and run a high pressure line up to the engine bay.
If you can, opt for the LXi or SEi (LXi with leather, but very rare), the motor had 120hp, versus 98hp in the lx and dx stock. Plus with the fuel injection already there, you'll have less to deal with if you do a swap. I'd say a CRV motor, or a CRVtec hybrid would be a nice motor in there, and it should be physically small enough to fit in there.
