For the first couple of years of its life, my ITR was the commuter car because my ol'e 6.3 Merc got about 8 miles per gallon.

I never experienced any troubles with theft or vandalism, but I'm not sure it'd be the same today. (Hell, "Floyd" just had his car vandalised right outside his apartment complex in a safe neighbourhood just to get the Sparco EVO seats out of it!)

For whatever it's worth, a stock ITR is a very nice daily driver commuter, provided you don't have to use cruise control.
