There are two different fitment issues here: (1) Can the tires be mounted on wheels of that width? and (2) Will tires that size rub? Other folks seem to be mostly answering question 2.
To see whether a given tire can be mounted on a given width of wheel, you can check the specs for the tire on the tire manufacturer's website and/or on the Tire Rack website. According to the
Tire Rack website, this size is only approved for rim widths of 7 to 9 inches. So the answer is no, the 225/45-15 will not fit on the stock 15x6 rims.
