Engaging first gear in my car, sometimes I have that 'over rev' thing that was explained in the first post. It rarely happens, and didn't happen until after my 3 track events in 8 days. I only have 32,000, and the clutch is rock solid everywhere else except 5% of the time engaging 1st gear from a stop, so I'm not concerned at all yet. But, what you described sounds common for a slipping clutch.
