In order to build and LS/VTEC to the point that it will be powerful enough and just as reliable as a B18C1 swap, your going to have at least the same amount of money into it. Since you'd be rebuilding a bunch of the LS block anyway, you could run better components than the factory offers and have a superior engine than a stock B18C1, but most likely for more money. The reliablity is only as good as the parts and who put it together as well.
I would usually only suggest a LS/VTEC swap if you already have an LS engine and don't want to invest the money into a new block. If your starting from sratch, your better off starting with a B18C1 (in my opinion).
