No, it really came as a suprise when Benton county was the first county to ok gay marriages...I mean, of all parts of Oregon, Benton county (consisting of Albany, Corvallis, Philomath, etc) is a mostly rural/redneck/blue collar area. Lots of farming and industrial work, its not very condusive to the alternative lifestyle...which would be more in the Eugene and Portland areas.
