Taking the muffler off is pretty easy. Find the closest flange in the piping (usually next to the rear wheels), unbolt the pipes and pop the hangers out of the rubber pieces and it will drop right down. The only thing that may pose a problem is if the bolts at the flange are rusted badly, then you can cut or torch them off and just replace them with new bolts. You may also want to replace the gasket between the flanges to ensure a leak-free seal.
