I'm lost with your explaination, Don't slam me on the next post but how is anyone going to know what dist. you have? what yr? Here's what I would do if I was you
If you have a wiring diagram(if you don't please get one), find the wire or wires to the cyp sensor at the dist. with the power off run a continuity test from the wire out of the dist.(if the cyp sensor is in there) to the same color wire for that sensor going into the connector for the ecu. This will tell you if your wires are okay, i.e. not pinched or open... I'm going to assume that you are going with that other ecu to get rid of obd2????
Why dont you swap back to the obd2 ecu and see what that code sayes after that?
It might say like voltage high or low or open or short instead of the lame obd1 code.
Just my first thoughts though, stuff I would try..
