Because of the way it was manufactured, the throw remains the same. It's basically a stock shifter, just a lot closer to your steering wheel, which is it's biggest selling point. The time it take to take a hand off the steering wheel while going 100+ down a straightaway to shift can be reduced if the shifter is closer to the steering wheel, which this does.
