It is all in the driver and the car has allot of potential given the right driver. The motor is mechanicly sound and running to its full potential another thing is that the stock clogged exhaust might have somthing to do with his sh*t times or that the camber is so far off on the front wheels that about half the tire is touching the ground or possibly the full tank of gas????. so dont think that the car is runing crap times because of the motor itself, it is running to its full potential, and yes vtec is engaging, trust me if the motor was not running right it would be damn hard not to smoke the tires in the first three gears.
just curious but you call yourself a mechanic, but when you do swaps do you normaly leave sensors unwired.. come on man.. if having it hooked up would "do more damage then good" then something is wrong. the sensor is there for a reason... the car is said to be throwing another code... i guess you just have not had time to fix it?????, because i KNOW no true mechanic would let a customer RACE the car with OBVIOUS BLATENT problems...
i mean it is a KNOCK SENSORS!!!!! not a seatbelt wire.. or parking brake light....
