its a tube and a filter...bottom line.

determining factors should be:
1. The coating on the tube (in terms of heat resistance)
2. The filter (in terms of how well it lets air flow through it)

the best intake i ever had was a cheap ebay CAI that I ceramic based painted the tubing on. While everyones chrome ones were too hot to touch, mine was cool as ever.
