I think you have a hugely lopsided view of religion in general, probably because of the age at which you moved away from it. When you think of religion, it prompts your childhood memories of being taught religion, which seems hugely oversimplified to me.

Most Christians do not being that god is in absolute control of the orld at all times, making every action occur. Instead, it's more like a top was set in motion and we're free to make our own decisions. Just a kind parental figure, really... would like you to do the right thing, but won't interfere.
