Everybody says that, but in my experience they don't know what they're doing. Forgive me for being frank.
How many years has your minister studied Greek? And does he know enough Greek and Greeks that he would understand the nuances?
For example, it is entirely possible to translate the beginning of the Gospels very differently. In Greek, the book begins,
EIN APXH EIN O LOGOS KAI O LOGOS EIS TON THEOU....
We know that in English you like to say,
In the Beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God....
However, if you were of an evil mind, it's possible to translate the very same Greek words entirely differently.
In the Beginning there was a concept, and that concept became like God....
If you were evil, you could translate it that way. If you have an agenda in mind, the Gospels can be made to say a lot that they don't really say.
