Is there something I can do to remedy this until she get the better head unit installed? What do I look for? and how do I fix it?
(I know this is probably something very basic...but I am still learning the "electrical" world of automotive)

Thanks,

The whining noise means that the head unit isn't grounded very well. Try attaching the ground(black wire) to something metal that is touching the chassis of the car. If the problem still persists, the head unit is probably defective.
