I think you are on to the right solution if $$$ are the issue. The shocks are one of the best improvements one can make. I use nothing but Koni and will suggest that they be used in this case. The alternative is to save up for a full shock/spring package. If you really need to lower the car then you should look at either the Neuspeed Sport or H&R springs.. We are using the Neuspeed Sport springs on our Konis and have no complaints. The ride height is correct for the roads we drive on as is the look. The car handles very well overall and is easy to drive for long periods of time on the interstate. The drop is gentle and there is little more to do. If the budget eventually allows for coilovers-then Ground Control or Skunk2 sleeves and matching springs can go directly on the Konis with little effort.

Just my 2 cents as a happy owner.
