I think I'd agree with you, in general terms. Logically, a test pipe will yield a couple of horses, but in actual practice, few people tune for it properly so it doesn't make any difference.
Those couple of horses aren't worth polluting the atmosphere, anyway, are they? LOL...
My ITR's dyno in its previous configuration, including a cat:
That's in street configuration. Stock pistons, stock cams.
SMSP system front to rear, including a cat. Very mild head work.
Cheap Hondata tuned by Steve Sakai. Tuning for power across a wide range of usable RPM made the car a real joy to drive on street or track.
This past season, we burned a piston at Summit Point, so the car's in the midst of a mild rebuild that will include CTR pistons and bigger injectors.
Steve has had cars w/OEM cams up to 200 HP on a Dynojet, so we're going to see if we can replicate that and still be fully driveable. I won't be disappointed if we don't quite make 200, because the driveability and trackability of the car are higher priorities...horsepower doesn't really tell the whole story.
