like everyone said, if the po-po never got involved (ie a police report was filed) or the either insurance company (her's and the camry's owner) was contacted...then she has nothing to worry about.
Her friend making the "triple" statement is correct, to a very MINUTE degree. Insurance will only go up IF both parties have reported the incident and it was found (though police report) that it was HER fault, then rates will go up. Usually, if it is a major accident, ie 1,000 or more in damages, you can expect to have high rates for quite a while. I, for one, know that insurance companies give points to certain type of accidents. the more damage done, the more points given. it takes about 2 years for the points to come off the record....so keep that in mind. REMEMBER, this scenerio is only used when insurance AND police are involved...which isn't your case.
Just suck it up...pay the 600 and when you give them the money, have them sign a piece of paper stating that no further money will be paid about the incident. Make sure you keep this in your files, just in case they decide to come up wiht some stupid @$$ charges.
Live, pay, and learn.....
