It would take an awful amount of rust to make a spring malfunction :a: I'd assume the threaded part itself isn't really a rustabe metal.
Unfortunately, the threaded part itself is the part that rusts.
The SS is a steel bodied assembly so unfortunately, those exposed threads will rust on the older uncoated units and can make it difficult to turn the perches or even "unlock" them. You can try keeping them coated in oil and spray them down every month during the winter and spring if you'd like. Kind of a pain but if you don't mind jacking your car up every month, not too bad.
