Well they've done some things right, or else they wouldn't be the #1 selling luxury manufacturer in America for the last 4 years. The next IS will definately be on my list of cars to watch. The fact that it is coming out around the same time as the next 3/4-series makes me think that they are really serious about benchmarking it to BMW's performance standards.
What they got right is the segment of people who wanted a luxury car they could forget about. Add in great customer treatment by the dealers and that can make you #1 in something. But your typical Lexus owner probably doesn't know the difference between a camshaft and a driveshaft, while your typical BMW owner wants to know how the cams shift during VANOS and if the driveshaft is center ballanced. See the difference?
