mine came built on the bulb.. but it's a low and hi beam kit so the shield covers the bottom so all the light reflects off the top of the reflector and down toward the road.. i actually had to remove the stock shield that's inside the housing so that the hid one will fit..

for hi beam the bulb retracts so that the lighting goes through a slit on the bottom allowing for hi beam.
