How do you set up surround sound with the PS2?

I have a Dolby Digital / DTS decoder/amplifier, an optical cable to hook them up and a S-Video cable for the video.

I checked into the console settings to enable the optical output.

I tried one game so far which is SoulCalibur 2 and it has Surround settings for its options, but for some reason, my decoder only detect stereo. My Xbox hooks up and play surround with no problems (after checking some settings in the dashboard).

Anyone?
i had this very same problem when i wanted to hook up the surrounds w/ the optical cable. start up the ps2 with a dvd in it. when the dvd starts playing stop it. then press select and look for an setup menu. go to audio setup and turn on dolby digital and dts. they are off by default.
