i mean i got the money for headers, intake, cam gears and valve springs... is it pointless for me to replace some of those things?
It's not pointless, but it's not a no-brainer.
Do the research and plan it carefully.
There's two schools of though.
1.Replace each component and dyno each time, so you have an idea of what effect each items' having.
2.Research a package that definitely sounds like what you want, and go for it.
ITR motors will definitely respond to improvements, and there are many 200+ dyno HP ITR that are entirely streetable, and normally aspirated.
You specifically asked about cams, though.
It's not a waste, by any means, but it should probably be one of the last things you do, after a new computer.

IMHO.
This is the last dyno of my car, and it was at 192 HP on the stock cams.
