I guess the people who say things like that haven't met the Langhornes or the Rockefellers, who have quite a few family members in West Virginia.

Many southern dynasties, like their British and European counterparts, have dynastic rules that require the children to marry an equal.
These families basically have no equals outside their close lineage in the Blue Book, so they will often find themselves marrying third cousins or thereabouts.
So, you see, you're making fun of a class of people you could never even aspire to be a part of.
Do they hand out pamphlets like this to promote tourism in WV?
