you don't need a scanner for checking any codes on a honda or acura. Look under the dash by the glove box there should be a two wire connector tucked up there some where just put a jumper wire inbetween those two connectors and turn on the key. If there are any engine codes stored the CEL will start flashing count the long and short flashes the long ones will be the first digit and the short ones will be the last digit if there is more than one code stored it will give them sequentially and keep repeating them until you pull the jumper. If the check engine light comes on and stays on then there are no codes and the system is fine. Good Luck
