Everything should go pretty smooth, you'll have to make sure you uninstall the drivers for your current motherboard and stuff. What Operating System are you running?? Also if you are getting a rather high-powered processor(Anything over 2Ghz.) and you are going from something somewhat older, considering buying a new Power Supply(about $75 for a 400w Antec).
Actually there are 2 reasons why I'm doing this.
1) Dell proprietary hardware = kaka. I can't run a decent power supply unless I buy one from Dell, which will cost me $ 91287391883772.88.
2) All I really need is a new processor and a new power supply, but that can't be changed unless I get a new motherboard. That way, I'll have a decent computer not only for games, but with all the 3D graphics work that I do. I need to cut down on rendering time!
