I think you are under the impression that the entire state is like Needles or Edwards AFB. It mosty certainly isn't. There's a significant amount of the State that is positively Oregonian in climate.

So then there's no reason for me to go there. Ooh, yay, a temperate climate that I can get in plenty of other places, a too-high cost of living, crappy 91 octane gas, CARB laws, etc. Yup, sure does sound appealing.
I will admit that Wisconsin sucks a big fat one aside from the fact that I can stumble to about 10 bars within a couple blocks of my apartment.
Maryland sure is pleasant, although I'm noticing the people here are getting more and more stuck up.
