i called and called and called and like after 20 mins of wait each time, they tell me to check the guidelines in which ive read voer and over which states that you can use a japanese motor but they said it has to pass cali laws and needs documentation that says that motor can be run in cali so know im like wtf... anyone have any bright ideas, im thinking that i can probably do the jdm k20A and run all emissions crap off of a type-2 k20a2. i dunno anyone think this would work or have any other sugestions??? thanks for the help guys
We like I said before it should be the same as any other swap and the rules to that are.
Regardless of origin of manufacture or destination country the vehicle must maintain emissions equal to or better than the standards in place the year of manufacture.
This is the reason why when people talk about swap legality they many times state that the engine has to be the same year or newer than the car is. This is because if you do this you run no chance of a different ECU programming (ie OBDI/OBDII/OBDIII), and the engine has been made with that years current emissions package and standards and the engine has been made according to those standards.
Hope this helps a bit but it is the way I have aways read the laws on it and the way it has always been explained to me.
