Looks like you actually made it out somewhat lucky. It definitely sucks having to rebuild after a run-in with a deer but at least there's something left to rebuild. My buddy hit one with his station wagon a few years ago, and the angle of impact caused the radiator to ignite some oil on the block. The car burnt in a matter of minutes. Pretty extreme scenario.
