And yes, humanity created religion, God did not. God gave us the Law and (for us Christian folk) salvation through Christ. Humans made up pretty much all the other stuff (Catholics in particular have requirements to complete all the sacraments the Church recognizes in order to be confirmed - all of which seem to me to be rather unnecessary, at least according to Scripture).
