Default Dash bulb replacement

Have a '96 V6 Accord 4dr and would like to replace a bulb in the dash. My Haines auto repair manual says to begin by removing the six bezel screws including one in the left vent opening. A close scrutiny of the left vent with a flashlight reveals no such screw and wonder if this manual is to be trusted as it includes other models? It suggests further that when the screws are removed that said bezel be pulled up sharply to release it from the remaining clamps. I am concerned that such a move might damage the trip meter that has a little push type reset rod extending through the dash and wonder if it can simply be unscrewed and removed prior to removal of the bezel? I am aware that much else must be removed in order to get to the bezel screws but hesitate to go to the trouble wondering about the bezel question. Have experience removing dashes from GM vehicles but we had more detailed manuals for each model from the manufacturer published each year and kept on file for use whenever needed.
Hope somebody out there can suggest a solution as it is largely a labor operation that could be quite expensive if taken to a dealer.
