42,000 still okay. Clutches should last to about 100k, even under some heavy usage - stock of course. If you have force-induction, the clutch should go sooner.

And yes auto clutches do break/wear out but usually it takes a little longer (its hard to drop the clutch while reving 5,000k - if you do I suspect your tranny will go before the clutch )
