If you record it, all the load is on the computer that's doing the recording, and after that it's no more load intensive than a normal movie.

nah man... Here's what I think they did... it was scripted in flash (which would make some of the movements easier... especially the warping and sliding of objects) with objects defined in Illustrator. From there it was prerendered out into a Quicktime movie...
Thus, you get a techie looking flash movie without the lag of Flash...
That's what I mean.
