The first car, a V70R painted in Doolan's favorite, Laser Blue, was a showcase for Volvo partsbin and not-so-partsbin pieces. Its body kit, using front chin spoiler and sideskirts from the S60R Sport in Europe also featured a prototype rear piece to make it work with the V70's longer tail. While the V70 kit is still a prototype, we hear the S60 version will be available through North American dealers very shortly.
The blue wagon, bearing more than a passing resemblance to the PCC2 concept car, also featured wheels, hubs and brakes sourced from the S60-challenge series and rear-seat entertainment similar to the system first seen in the S80 75th Anniversary Edition.
Next to the V70 was a matching Laser Blue S60R that went even further. As we loitered by the Volvo stand, we couldn't help but watch in pleasure as traditional mainstream car guys walked past, took a double take and circled back around the blue sedan. They'd inevitably walk up to the car, eye up the radical hardware and stylistic changes, read the decal located on one of the side windows and ask, "Who the heck is Evolve?"
