Ok I see what your getting at.

One problem with that is that the anomaly must continue....kind of like a backup program or in this case an antivirus program....just in case something does happen the program has to be there to pick up the slack and fix the error.

The machines were originally made by humans, they were given AI programmed by humans...since humans programmed the AI it was made with certain human characteristics such as a lust for power. If it hadn't then why would the machines have revolted in the first place?

This ever so slight imperfection has been honed and passed through generations of machine programming because the machines didn't see it as a flaw but rather as a necessity for self preservation.

The machines are very efficient and as said many times in Reloaded, "When a program faces deletion it will generally go into hiding." This proves that self preservation at any cost neccesary is an inherent design of the system.
