Changing super old trans fluid could cause the tranny to slip.

There are exeptions like Andy's Cherokee

Some cars/trucks have a drain plug on the pan allowing to do just a drain and fill without changing the filter, or some quick lubes will tell you to do your trans service for cheaper. The real use of these drain plugs is to drain the fluid before dropping the pan, if any one has done a auto trans service (fluid AND filter) without one of these plugs wished they had one.
