Yep, the SOHC VTEC trannies all have a slightly more aggressive gearing and a little higher final drive ratio so they're more performance oriented. There still very streetable (obviously) but you might lose a few MPG compared to a non-VTEC tranny because you'll be turning a few hundred rpm more on the highway. I'd say find a smashed '92-'95 EX coupe or sedan or a '92-'95 Si hatchback and swap the motor/tranny or just find a mint one and start there.
