Actually there are some pretty smart nerds with fabricating skills that made their entire house automated. Almost every single outlet has a remote control from one computer... security system, electornic locks, automatic windows/blinds, electronic control bath/shower, etc... tons of stuff.
It's all controlled by a Slackware linux 8.0 machine with a PIII 733MHZ cpu and 512mb ram. :thumbup:
